Aberdeenshire Registrars can offer you help and advice on tracing your Scottish ancestry. At our computerised full time offices, Registrars have access to the indexes and digital images of:
- All Scottish births, deaths and marriages since the start of civil registration in 1855
- Scottish census records from 1841 to 1901. Please note the 1911 Scottish census is only available through Scotland’s People.
- Old Parish Registers (OPRs) for the whole of Scotland from 1553 to 1854
For a fee of £15:00 per hour, the Registrar will conduct a one-to-one search of the records with the customer. Customers can also view Burial Grounds records where these exist locally and this would be included in the search fee. Gift vouchers for search time can also be purchased at any of our offices. These can make an ideal special present.
Copies of scanned images of historical records can be purchased for 50p each. For these purposes, the definition of a ‘historical record’ is any birth that occurred over 100 years ago, any marriage over 75 years ago, any death record over 50 years ago and all census and Old Parish Registers.
More recent records can be viewed on-screen and the customer may take written notes. Alternatively an extract can be purchased for £10:00.
