The Local Studies Department aims to provide both current and historical information on all aspects of Aberdeen.  The sources also cover a larger area including the historic counties of Aberdeenshire, Banffshire and Kincardineshire.  Family history sources include:

  • Old Parish Registers of baptisms, marriages and deaths up to 1854
  • Census Returns from 1841 to 1901
  • Maps of Aberdeen from 1661
  • Electoral registers from 1909
  • Valuation rolls from 1859
  • Local newspapers dating from 1747 to the present day
