Family History research is undertaken on:

Monday: 9.30am-11.30am, 2.30pm-4.30pm
Tuesday: 9.30am-11.30am
Wednesday: 2.30pm-4.30pm
Thursday: 9.30am-11.30am
Friday: 9.30am-11.30am

The cost is £20 per hour for a Computer Search, this, with help from the Search Supervisor gives the user access to the whole of Scotland’s birth, death and marriage records from 1855 to the present.

Access to the paper Registers, where notes can be taken in pencil is also available at a charge of £20 per hour (please call the office for more information about using the paper registers).

The service provides:

  • Access to birth, death and marriage registers for Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire
  • Computerised access to all registration documents for the whole of Scotland from 1855 to the present day
  • Computerised access to the Old Parish Registers for the whole of Scotland from 1553 to 1854
  • Computerised access to Scottish census records from 1841 to 1911.

Searches can also be requested by post or email.  An hour’s search on the computer will be carried out at a cost of £20.00, and digital images of historical records will be posted to you – please note that emailing images is  not permitted. The definition of historical records is any birth that occurred over 100 years ago, any marriage that occurred over 75 years ago and any death that occurred over 50 years ago, all Census records and Old Parish Records. More recent records may be viewed on screen and pencil notes may be taken, otherwise, an extract can be purchased as part of a search for £10.00 each.
